Three-dimensional wake transition behind an elliptic cylinder near a moving wall

Three-dimensional flow past an elliptic cylinder with aspect ratio of 0.5 near a moving bottom wall is investigated numerically for gap ratios G / D = 0.1 , 0.2 0.3 and 0.4 (where denotes the between wall, major-axis length cylinder) Reynolds numbers (Re) ranging from 100 to 200 (based on constant inlet velocity cylinder); transition two- three-dimensional regimes described in detail. For 0.4, first two-dimensional Kármán vortex street followed by two-layered wake, then it evolves into regime near-wake far-wake instabilities pairs; R e ≥ 180, instability disappears (i.e., wake becomes two-dimensional) while persists. 0.3, without development streamwise vorticity pairs propagating periodically spanwise direction; this propagation irregular 160. as three-dimensional, exhibiting behavior modified mode C instability; 140, exhibits chaotic behavior. 0.1, steady shedding, develops unsteady dominating upper shear layer structure farther downstream.
